Shades d'Art was conceived and developed by artists, Helen Douglas and Katharine Hathaway - women over fifty. They were drawn together by their mutual love of art and all things beautiful. The two are from altogether different worlds but together they created a product with universal appeal.
Katharine's passion is the written word and photography. She haunts the rocky coast of Maine's Acadia National Park and the shores of Lake Michigan, writing prose and taking beautiful photographs. These two talents are an perfect mix with Helen's.
Helen is the elder of this duo and has been a student of the fine arts since the birth of her last child in 1961. She developed a love for painting and works in fits and starts because she becomes distracted by projects such as this. This whole endevour came about from her painting one window shade in her kitchen to go with the new paint job on the walls. Once she gets an idea she can't stop and her painting is often neglected.
Hathaway-Douglas Shades d'Art™ is a start-up company from Maine and we have an exciting and fun idea that celebrates art and the way we look at the world. It moves the imagination to places beyond.
